Biography
Birgitta Wollenweber plays piano recitals and chambermusic on international platforms.
After grewing up in the German area Rhineland with a solid piano education she commenced piano studies at the Music Academy Detmold under Prof. Renate Kretschmar-Fischer.
After two exams with distinction she spent an inspiring time at Royal College of Music London under the jewish pianist Peter Wallfish. She finished with concertexam in Detmold.
A lively concert activity on invitations of orchestras, international Festivals, organizers and broadcasters, first from Cologne, since 1994 from Berlin followed.
Concert programs are currently focussed on classical-romantic works although her repertoire encompasses all epochs, the discography also includes lesser-known literature whose composers are being rediscovered through a desire for research.
Birgitta Wollenweber is open to contemporary compositions, some of which she has premiered.
In 2003 she was appointed professor of piano and chamber music at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. She combines her interest in the promotion of young musicians with an audience-oriented music education in her concert series.
Competitions were always an incentive for Birgitta Wollenweber as a young pianist.
She won various Chopin competitions, the Joy Scott Prize in London and awards at the
International Maria Canals Piano Competition in Barcelona and the German Music Competition. The successful career path, however, succeeded without an impacting competition comet.
She followed invitations to festivals – such as Rheingau-Music Festival, Ludwigsburg Castle Festival, International Music Festival Dinu Lipatti, Art Festival Weimar, International Beethoven Festival Bonn, Chopin Festival Marianske Lazne, Piano Summer Beethoven House Bonn, Festival de l’Eté and Festival de Flandre /Belgium, La Musica – International Chamber Music Festival Florida and Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and performs with orchestras such as Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, Berlin Symphoniques, German Chamberacademy, Herforder Symphoniques, Israel Sinfonietta, Orchestra of Beethovenhalle Bonn, Philharmonia Hungarica, Philharmonic Stateorchestra Halle, Rhinland Chamberorchestra, Symphonyorchestra Eisenach, Prussion Chamberorchestra.
Chamber music concerts with partners Matthias Wollong, Hartmut Rohde, Michael Sanderling, Frank Forst , Georg Pohle, Mathias Baier, Georg Faust , Gregor Witt, Michael Denhoff and Stephan Picard are an important part of her pianistic activities.
Radio and television stations such as NDR, WDR, Deutsche Welle,Deutschlandfunk, Radio Bremen, BR, ZDF and SWR accompany her interpretations.
